Straddle and bridle, hames and harness stowed away eternally.

These old hames, harnesses and drive lines were used on Zimmer's team of draft horses.

What a find to photograph! These old all purpose collars were used for farm work and pulling wagons.

The Corn House

                                         Today the corn crib stands alone
                                         Those flakes of red reflect its past
                                         When painted like the barns beyond
                                         A prosperous boast to passersby

Never Go Hungry

This is a potato harvester. It was pulled behind a horse or small tractor and was a back saver. It picked the potatoes up out of the ground, shook off the dirt and set them in a holding area to be bagged. Ingenious!

Sea of Gold

Field of wheat, so full and fair,

Shining, with thy sunny hair

Lightly waving either way,

Graceful as the breezes play-

The Stella Dora Day Lily is one of the most loveliest of the day lilies. Even in this heat they continue to add sunshine to my garden when everything else seems to be wilting...

Camo Eggs

The Killdeer made her nest and laid four eggs right in the middle of the driveway this year. Every time you go over to the barns and approach the nest she goes into her injured distraction.

Nature's Handiwork

Queen Anne’s Lace is said to have been named after Queen Anne of England, an expert lace maker. English legend tells us that Queen Anne challenged the ladies of the court to a contest to see who could produce a pattern of lace as lovely as the flower of this plant. No one could rival the queen's handiwork. She however, pricked her finger with a needle and a single drop of blood fell into the lace, that is said to be the dark purple floret in the center of the flower.

The Latch

The latch holds the door secure protecting the treasures within.

Sanctuary

Walking into the barn, looking up and seeing the light streaming in through the strong heavy beams, it took my breath away. I thought what a special place this is, a safe haven and home for farm animals and so much more. The mow looked comfortable like a fabulous play ground and the sunbeam invited me up the ladder to take a nap in the straw.

St Francis in the Masterson Garden

 

St. Francis' prayer asks for strength to give of ourselves to meet the needs of others. He recognizes that it "is in giving that we receive", that as we give of ourselves, we receive the peace and blessing of our risen Lord Jesus.

Beware of Snake

                              The American Garter Snake is a harmless yet scary reptile.

Put it out and they will come!

The oranges were put out for the Baltimore Orioles and what a treat it was to see butterflies also enjoying the sweet juice.

Everything is Coming Up Daisies

Today, while playing golf at the Ridgetown Golf and Country Club with Donna and Joyce, I stopped to smell the flowers. It is a challenging course and their lovey gardens brightened the spirits.

Maiden Grass Dance

The tops of the Maiden Grass looked like delicate dancers and in the wind a garden ballet was performed.

Sunshiny Days

The bright, sunny color of yellow roses evokes a feeling of warmth and happiness. The warm feelings associated with the yellow rose are often akin to those shared with a true friend. As such, the yellow rose is an ideal symbol for joy and friendship.

Bird on a Wire

The goldfinches like to sit on the clothes line. So far we have not had an incident with the laundry.

Golden Garden

I put out a feeder for the finches and within 5 minutes we had so many visitors. This pair has stuck around all week.

King of the Garden

This male Cardinal rules our backyard garden. He is very vocal and is not shy at all when we are around. He visits this bird feeder as his personal smorgasbord.
