September Love

A Life of Grand Adventure

A Life of Grand Adventure

With all of the grand adventure awaiting you,
I wish you could just pack me up in your suitcase too.
That way, wherever you go,
You'd have me and I'd have you.

Saying Goodbye to Summer

It’s time to admit what we were all dreading to say out loud; unfortunately summer is coming to an end! I know nobody wants to leave behind summer adventures, beaches, and warm weather but at some point we have to move on from this beautiful pause in life and face what’s to come.

Kite surfing has been a favourite amongst those with a need for speed out at Mitchell's Bay.

.......Squirrel!

While watching people I realized
That folks are a lot like squirrels
They don't pay much attention at all
To what's going on in their world

They scurry about to and fro
Doing what it is they do
Digging holes and burying nuts
A lot like me and you

METAMORPHOSIS

METAMORPHOSIS
by: Alison Hawthorne Deming

A caterpillar spits out a sac of silk
where it lies entombed while its genes
switch on and off like lights
on a pinball machine. If every cell
contains the entire sequence
constituting what or who the creature is,
how does a certain clump of cells
know to line up side by side
and turn into wings, then shut off
while another clump blinks on
spilling pigment into the creature’s
emerald green blood, waves of color
flowing into wingscales—black, orange,
white—each zone receptive only to the color
it’s destined to become. And then
the wings unfold, still from their making,
and for a dangerous moment hold steady
while they stiffen and dry, the double-
layered wing a protolanguage—one side
warning enemies, the other luring mates.
And then pattern-making cells go dormant,
and the butterfly has mastered flight.

Winter is Coming

Time to get out the log splitter and stack the wood pile. With the cost of electricity and gas in Ontario many are turning to wood burning stoves and fireplaces for their source of heat. Glad we go to Florida :)

The weather this summer has been very changeable with many thunderstorm warnings. Today the forecast is ....a lovely day. Must not be golf day!

The Land of Heart's Desire

Faeries, come take me out of this dull world,
For I would ride with you upon the wind,
Run on the top of the dishevelled tide,
And dance upon the mountains like a flame.
~William Butler Yeats,
"The Land of Heart's Desire," 1894

You are My Sunshine

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are gray
You'll never know dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away

Essential Oils

If you have ever enjoyed the scent of a rose, you’ve experienced the aromatic qualities of essential oils. These naturally occurring, volatile aromatic compounds are found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, and other parts of plants. They can be both beautifully and powerfully fragrant. Essential oils give plants their distinctive smells, essential oils protect plants and play a role in plant pollination. In addition to their intrinsic benefits to plants and their beautiful fragrance, essential oils have long been used for food preparation, beauty treatment, and health-care practice.

Essential oils have been around for a very long time. It is just recently that I have jumped on the aromatherapy band wagon and have experienced my first doTerra essential oils products and am on the road to emotional and physical wellness.

Snap Bean Harvest

The "green" bean that everyone recognizes is one of the most frequently prepared vegetables. We were lucky enough this year to have these tasty beans growing in the field behind our house. Hot, cold, even raw, green beans are versatile in the kitchen and very prolific plants in the garden.

Our friends gave us this very tasty Chinese Buffet Green Bean Recipe:
Directions
  • Heat peanut oil in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Stir in the garlic, and cook until the edges begin to brown, about 20 seconds.
  • Add the green beans; cook and stir until the green beans begin to soften, about 5 minutes.
  • Stir in the sugar, oyster sauce, and soy sauce.
  • Continue cooking and stirring for several minutes until the beans have attained the desired degree of tenderness.

Red Dragon

Summer Favourite

Clematis

Creative paper look, flowers so prolific
Leafy climber, covering the frame
Everlasting greenery, creating ripples
Mingled with, honeysuckle and jasmine
Animated in the breeze, scents on the wind
Tendrils crawling, wrapping, holding
Infectious purples, blues, whites and creams
Sweetly caressing where it travels
